Welcome friend!
You’re here looking for Poo-Poo Spray, right?
I’m not surprised. Over half a million people have come looking and for good reason. Poop stinks!
There are two things that prove we are all created equal:
- Death
- Bowel movements
In other words, we’re all gonna die and we all have to go to the bathroom. And we’ll do one of those things way more than the other.
I can’t help you with the death part, but I can definitely help you with the unfortunate results of bowel movements.
All you need is this fabulous Poo-Poo Spray to keep those BM odors right where they belong!

Flashback to the 70’s…
I come from a family of seven and when I was growing up we only had one bathroom. If someone left a whopper-stink in there it led to some major conflict.
There was always a large box of matches on the back of the toilet and after you went #2 you were supposed to light the match, wave it around the toilet for a bit and then drop it in before you burned your finger off.
True story.
Nowadays, when somebody stinks up the lavatory most people would reach for a commercial room deodorizer.
Except don’t because those are toxic.
You can certainly use my non-toxic All Natural Room Freshener, but why not stop the stench at the source?
Now you can with Poo-Poo Spray.
Just spray it in the toilet before you go #2 and it creates an oil barrier on top of the water. Once the BM passes through the surface of the water, the oil barrier closes and traps all the nasty odors below. You never smell the poop at all.
Think of of like a force field and your poop is the Death Star. Well, you get the idea…
Poo-Poo Spray–money in the bank, not in the toilet
I’m not sure why the famous name brand costs so much money when the ingredients are so cheap. Plus, I can pretty much guarantee they’re using low-grade essential oils so why the high price tag?
When I checked the name-brand’s website I was shocked that a 4 oz. bottle of their extra-fancy poop spray was $15.00.
That’s $480 a gallon, people! And if you buy their smaller 2 oz. size the price goes up to a whopping $640 a gallon. Say What??!!
It’s like flushing money down the toilet. Literally. LOL!
Even using the highest quality essential oils on the market, my 4 oz. poo-poo spray will only cost you about a buck fifty. Whew, financial crisis averted. Now we can all breathe again…literally.
We used to make this spray with just essential oils and water and it worked fine. But since we’re always tweaking things around here, we have found a few ways to improve the recipe.
Here’s what’s in Poo-Poo Spray and why:
Vegetable Glycerin—helps the water and oil emulsify and increases the “oil” barrier on the water’s surface. I use this brand of Vegetable Glycerin.
Isopropyl Alcohol—commonly called rubbing alcohol, also helps the water and oil emulsify.
Glass Spray Bottle—I highly recommend using glass containers for any DIY products that contain essential oils because they can etch plastic over time. It’s a good investment since these glass spray bottles with last forever.
Blue Food Coloring—visual aid so you can see the oil barrier. Not necessary but it helps people feel better when they see that they have “full coverage”.
Essential Oils—you can use any combo you like but if you want to mimic the name brand’s original formula use bergamot, grapefruit and lemongrass. Not everyone loves the smell of lemongrass so I’ve come up with some other combinations that work just as well and smell fabulous!
Note: This is normally where I’d tell you to only use the highest quality essential oils you can buy. But let’s get real folks, we’re talking about poop spray here. Use whatever inferior essential oils you want.
In fact, this was how we used up all the cheap essential oils we had bought over the years before we discovered our favorite brand Spark Naturals. Just sayin’…
Happy day with Poo-Poo Spray
Once you experience the magical power of this Homemade Poo-Poo Spray you’ll want one for every bathroom in your house.
Since we created our first version many years ago we have completely eliminated those disgusting #2 after-odors. Except when farm kid # 1 forgets to spray in the toilet before he goes.
Fortunately, when that happens, I always have a bottle of my All Natural Room Freshener close by as well. You’re welcome!
Homemade Poo Poo Spray
1 cup minus 2 tbsp. water
2 tsp. rubbing alcohol (or substitute 4 tsp. vodka)
2 tsp. vegetable glycerin (or substitute 1 tsp. liquid soap)
15 drops bergamot essential oil
15 drops grapefruit essential oil
15 drops lemongrass essential oil
3 drops blue food coloring (optional).
Mix all ingredients very well in a small bowl. Using a large funnel, pour mixture into one 8 oz. glass spray bottle or two 4 oz. glass spray bottles. Seal tightly and label.
To use Poo Poo Spray:
- Shake bottle well.
- Spritz 4-5 sprays onto toilet water surface before going #2.
- Do your business.
- Flush.
- Wash hands.
- Turn out light. (Oh sorry, thought I was talking to my kids for a second there).
Yield: approx. 150-175 uses.

Haha this made me laugh out loud 🙂 Such a great idea though, and I love doterra! Thanks!!
Fabulous Farm Girl says
You’re welcome Laura! That’s what I’m here for–to bring a little potty-humor to everyone’s day. I’m so glad you’ve discovered the wonders of doTerra. These essential oils have really changed our lives–and the smell of our bathrooms. LOL! Have a great day!

Amanda says
I really want to try this for my office at work. It is a teeny tiny bathroom and everyone sprays so many chemical air fresheners, I can hardly breathe when I walk into it sometimes.
Fabulous Farm Girl says
You go for it, Amanda! I stopped using industrial cleaners and room fresheners a couple years ago and now I can’t even walk down the cleaning isle at the grocery store. All the fake fragrance smells make me gag. I can only imagine what you deal with in that tiny bathroom at work. I’m sure your co-workers would also rather prevent the smell then try to cover up the smell so they’ll probably thank you. Good luck!
–Leah
Courtney says
This is so interesting. This would be so much better than those nasty bathroom sprays!
Fabulous Farm Girl says
You got that right, Courtney! And way less toxic too! Thanks for stopping by.
–Leah
Happysuz says
I always thought the adds for the premium brand stuff were hilarious, but wondered if it worked. I am so going to try this and maybe give as stocking stuffers at Christmas! Thanks for sharing your recipe! (Stopping by from SITS sharefest)
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Oh, it works Happysuz but as I mentioned the price is ridiculous! Making your own is so easy and just as effective. I think giving it as Christmas gifts is brilliant. Thanks for stopping by!

Jenny says
Where do I buy the vegtable glycerine and oils at? Do I have to go to a specialty store or would Walmart or Target sell them?
Leah says
Hi Jenny! I buy vegetable glycerin in the pharmacy department of my local grocery store. I’m sure you could get it at Walmart or Target as well. Thanks for stopping by!
–Leah
Amy says
This is great! I need to share this with my sister. She’s got two boys and is always looking for ways to keep the bathrooms at least smelling fresh.
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Your a very nice sister, Amy! My 3 teenage boys share a bathroom and it is also our “public” bathroom. I don’t know how we (not to mention our guests) would have survived all these years without Poo-Poo Spray. She’ll be very grateful, I’m sure.
–Leah
Michelle says
I had to laugh at the matches…this is something my husband’s had our kids do over the years when we were out of homemade room freshening sprays, lol. I much prefer using homemade room fresheners as opposed to matches, but a lit match does work in a pinch.
You can’t go wrong with homemade – you know it’s safe and non-toxic, and it’s definitely cost-effective. I’ve never tried using any sort of pre-poop sprays, so I’m totally pinning this – thanks for sharing. 😉
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Thanks for backing me up, Michelle. When my teenagers read this post they thought I was making that part up. My husband (also a child of the 70’s) said that his family never used this technique so I think it’s safe to say my parents were just too cheap to by room deodorizer. LOL! My hubby was pretty sure it just made the bathroom smell like burned poop but I don’t remember that. Either way, I’m so glad I now have Poo-Poo Spray (and not matches) in every bathroom. Have a great day!
–Leah
jean says
We also used matches. I think it is connected to the sulphur on the matchstick head. We had a sign that said: “should the odour leave much to be desired, then a matchstick may be fired” !!!
Leah says
That’s awesome Jean! I swear I always thought we were the only family that did that. At least your family had a cool sign. LOL!
–Leah
Katy says
My grandparents also had a box of matches on the back of the toilet for just this purpose! I know this post is years old, but I just had to chime in. 🙂
Angela says
I thought you are not supposed to put essential oils in plastic bottles because it eats the plastic?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Angela–thanks for stopping by. You are right in that essential oils can etch plastic, particularly the citrus oils. The spray bottle I use in this post is glass as are the ones I use at home. Have a great day.
–Leah
Kim Lamphere says
I’ve purchased a lot of Poo-pourri over the years. Love the stuff but can’t stand the price. I’ve known for a while that it’s possible to make it yourself, and I’m finally getting around to it! Making my own means I can use my favorite scents! If my first batch turns out well, I may make some as Christmas gifts for family members.
vicky j. says
Where do u buy the oils? I gotta try this!
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Vicki–thanks for stopping by. If you go to my home page and click on Essential Oils at the top center that will take you to my page Getting Started With Essential Oils. That post will tell you everything you need to know about how to get some wonderful doTerra EOs for yourself. You can also email me through my contact page if you have any questions. mom2shy says
I found a Rosewater & Glycerin spray. Do you think it would work in place of the vegetable glycerin & what oils would you mix with it?
mom2shy says
Me again 🙂 I have lots of essential oils that I had bought to make candles but of course none of them are what you have listed. I have Rose, Gardenia, Plumeria, Cucumber Melon, Honeydew, Raspberry Vanilla, Vanilla & Hansel & Gretel. Can you make anything out of those & what do you think about the Rosewater & Glycerin spray?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hello mom2shy–thanks for stopping by. The gylcerin is is just an emulsifier and you could make the poo-poo spray without it as long as you shake well before use. That said I would definitely try the glycerin spray in place of the glycerin as it certainly can’t hurt. You can use any essential oil or combo of oils you like. You could use rose, gardenia and plumeria for an English garden scent. Or cucumber melon and raspberry vanilla might be nice. I’m not sure it really matters as you’ll be flushing pretty quick and the oil is just to keep the bad smell contained until it goes down. I don’t really think you can mess it up. Hope that helps!
–Leah
Sarah says
I have never seen all natural essential oils of gardenia or plumeria. What brand did you find these with? Would LOVE to have these! And thank you for the help with the spray! So funny about the matches!!! 😀
Leah says
Your welcome Sarah and I’m surprised how many other people have said they’ve used matches too. I totally thought we were the only ones. LOL!

Rebecca "Franticmommy" Flansburg says
OMG! I love this blog! It’s like a treasur-trove of good info. LOVE this poo-poo spray idea. We are fans of the retail poo-poo stuff, but not fans of the price! Have to try this 🙂 Stopping by from the SITS Sharefest.
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Wow, thanks Rebecca! You really made my day. This homemade version is so easy to make and works as good as the big-name brand. Plus it will save you a lot of money and who doesn’t love that. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
–Leah
Carly Neufeld says
Hey what are the other scent combinations you came up with?
Lisa says
Hi Leah, thanks so much for sharing this recipe! I seriously can’t wait to try it out for myself 🙂
As a business owner, I just wanted to (gently, I hope) throw in my two cents about poo poo-ing a small business based on how they have to price their products to thrive in a down economy.
Let’s say it costs the company $2 in raw materials to create the 4 oz product. And then it costs them another $1 in labor/production/manufacturing. And then another $1 for printing/warehousing/distribution/web hosting/customer service (I’m being conservative here). So we can guess that the total cost to the company might be $4, at zero profit. But they have to build in a little profit so that they can wholesale their product (50% off retail) and afford to pay the bills, grow their business + employ even more people. So let’s say they add $3.50 on top of their raw costs, making their total wholesale price $7.50… which is roughly half of their $14.95 retail price tag. If you want to save a few bucks on shipping, you can even utilize the store locator section of their website!
I’m in no way affiliated with said company (nor have I used their products myself), and I do realize that you are trying to sell people your eo’s, but I think that whole pricing conversation could have been left out and your blog post would still have been so super helpful 🙂
Angie says
I know this is old, but I have to laugh how FFG replies to everyone’s comments but yours. I will comment, however, and say that you are very correct. The ‘expensive name brand company’ is a small, privately held and run company; it is VERY hard to make enough money to make it worthwhile to do business without mega $ backing you. I am willing to cut ‘expensive name brand company’ a lot of slack. If you think it’s too expensive, don’t buy it and make your own, or smell the poo. Just cool it on the negative rhetoric.
Rose says
Thanks for mentioning this. I run a small business and you are absolutely right about the pricing. Even for us “sole proprietors” there are many costs that must be covered. The first 3 years in business I ended up with a deficit because I was trying to keep my prices low. If the product is worth buying, it is worth paying a fair price for it.
ann says
where did you find vegetable glycerin? is there a more common sub i could use? another kind of oil?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Ann–thanks for your question. You can find vegetable glycerin at most pharmacies. My husband bought it at the pharmacy section of our local grocery store. You can also sometimes find it in craft stores, probably in the baking/cake decorating section. You can also substitute it with olive oil if you wish. hope that helps.

Jeanne says
I have made this and it is awesome — as long as everyone remembers to use it!

Ha, ha that is so true Jeanne! It was a bit of a learning curve in the beginning with the men in my house but they did catch on eventually, thanks goodness! Good luck!

Jamie says
Brilliant! Gave me a good chuckle, and I think I’ll actually use this in my two-man household – it’ll be very useful for a Sunday morning!
fabulous Farm Girl says
That’s awesome Jamie! It’s very useful EVERY morning around this 4-man household. Have a great day!
–Leah
Elvija says
Do u have to use the 15 drops of eo
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Elvija–thanks for stopping by. The recipe calls for a total of 45 drops of essential oil and yes it is necessary. It’s the essential oil that is creating the barrier on top of the water and also providing extra protection with the fragrance. It works but only if you follow the recipe. Have a great week!
–Leah
Cathy says
I used to take matches with me everywhere just in case I needed to poo. Well I was dining in a chicken place, after leaving the bathroom. An employee came up to me, tapped me on the shoulder and real loud said ” were you smoking in the bathroom?” I explained my little secret only to have everyone in KFC look at me with disgust.
Fabulous Farm Girl says
That made me laugh Cathy. What a great story! Seriously, I thought my dad invented the match-as-odor-remover method but he never told me about the portable version. I’m gonna have to talk to him about that!
Wendy says
Thank you for this. I’ve seen the product on one of the home shopping channels and it is so darn expensive. This will be an awesome for my stinky boy. 🙂
Fabulous Farm Girl says
You’re so welcome, Wendy. With a husband and 3 teenage boys we go through Poo-Poo Spray way too fast to pay those crazy prices. My homemade version works just as well and I’ll still be able to send my kids to college. LOL!

laydee hawke says
I don’t have any glycerin…would mineral oil work?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hello Laydee Hawke–thanks for stopping by. You can buy vegetable glycerin at most drug stores and it is quite inexpensive. I don’t know if mineral oil would work as an alternative so what I recommend is 2-3 drops of liquid soap. Shake it gently and the mixture should turn opaque. My husband has tried this method and says it works fine. As with the regular recipe, shake well before use. Hope that helps.
–Leah
Sue says
I have regular glycerin in my cabinet. Can I use that in place of the vegetable glycerin?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Sue–thanks for stopping by. Yes you can use either glycerin for this poo-poo spray. It is only there as a mild emulsifier and to slightly increase the viscosity of the EO’s, creating a slightly heftier barrier. You’re good to go. Have a great week!
–Leah
stephanie says
I found this on pinterest. and I have a question. I am very sensitive to smells.. can we use fruit scents for this poo spray. I cannot handle floral and most scents. some spice but not alot. can you recommend any scents…
Leah says
Hi Stephanie–thanks for stopping by. You can use any single essential oil or combination of oils that you want. I have found that a lot of people who are sensitive to smell are sensitive to synthetic or low-grade fragrance. I recommend you use doTerra EO’s as they are the purest you can buy. You should try a combination of the citrus oils first and see how you handle it. Hope that helps!
–Leah
Brianna E says
This is BRILLIANT! I love the idea of the Poo spray, but never caved because of the price tag. I’m definitely going to hang on to this gem of a recipe and make sure there’s one in every bathroom. Love this!

I agree Brianna–cheaper is better if it works just as well and I can tell that this Poo-Poo spray does. Thanks for stopping by!

Teresa (embracing the spectrum) says

I have to laugh with the various references to ‘boys’ and ‘men’ ‘s smells being so offensive – I’m a woman and find the ‘fairer sex” s smells left in the bathroom to be just as gruesome, lol.

Yunni says
Dear Leah,
I love your recipe and have made my first batch. But I faced a problem with the spray bottles, and I have used several different kinds. After a couple of days it is like they get clogged and there is no getting it spraying again. Leah, did have the same kind of problems? Do you have any remedies or suggestions how to solve this problem? I have the actual stuff too, and it doesn’t clog, so I can’t figure it out.
Thanks you in advance for the response!
Yunni
Natalie says
I’ve bought similar products in the past and they came in dropper bottles. Maybe you could try switching to one of those and use about half a dropper full each time?
Leah says
I know what you’re talking about Natalie. When I visited Canada many years ago they had a product called Just A Drop that came in a little squeeze bottle. It worked great so I’m sure your idea of a dropper bottle would work to. Let me know if you try it. Thanks for stopping by!
–Leah
Paty says
Yunni, Did you solve the problem?? I have the same problem too!!… a couple of days it is like they get clogged and there is no getting it spraying again.!! HELP PLEASE
Leah says
Hi Paty–sorry you’re having problems with your spray bottle getting clogged. I’ve never had this problem but I did switch to a trigger handle spray bottle a while back so you might want to try that. You could also add a little more rubbing alcohol to thin it out and use essential oils that are not too viscous. Hope that helps.
–Leah
Debra says
I would love to make this for gifts. I purchased the high price version from a gift shop and my grandchildren was using way too much so I had to hide it. I only use it when we have guest. Now it can become a daily ritual.
Question though, where do you get the glass spray bottles?
Thanks for sharing your recipe and helpful advice.
Saige says
Does this work without scents because i can’t stand really strong smells
Saige says
This is also a REALLY helpful idea!
Heather says
Hi there,
I’ve made the product and was very impressed at first but the effect seems to wear off after a few days to weeks. I tried adding more oils to the existing solution with no big improvement. Any thoughts about how to refresh it or better yet make it last longer in the first place? I used the bergamot blend as you suggested and I’m using Edens garden and Aura Cacia oils which I have had success with up to this point.
Thanks!
Leah says
Hmmm, I’m not sure what the problem is Heather. We’ve never noticed the the smell of the Poo-Poo spray wears off and we have used it for months before needing to make more. In fact, the bottle still smells of the EOs even when it’s empty. Are you shaking the bottle before every use? And this might be a silly question but are you spraying in the toilet before every bowel movement. The spray won’t last beyond one flush. Since you’re using brands other than doTerra you could just try adding 15-20 drops more oil. You might also try other oils that are just stronger smelling such as the spice oils or woodsy oils. Hope that helps.

where did you buy your glass spray bottles?
cher says
Will this work for urine smells? Friend takes medicine which makes her urine strong and unpleasant.
Leah says
Hi Cher–thanks for stopping by. I can’t honestly say if it would work since urine doesn’t sink below the water. That said, I think it would help and it certainly can’t hurt so definitely have her try it. Let me know how it goes. Have a great day!

Thanks for the recipe, can’t wait to try it; in fact I run out of surgical spirit, so I was wondering if witch hazel would be ok to use instead? If not I can get some soon, I,m just so impatient!
Leah says
Hi Lorna! You’re gonna love the poo-poo spray. Seriously, life-changing. LOL! I’m assuming that by surgical spirit you mean the rubbing alcohol. If so then I think witch hazel will be fine as a substitute. Just remember to always shake well before use. have a great day.

Linda Chatham says
Does the odor really come from what’s IN the water, or from the time the BM leaves the body to the time it hits the water? So putting a barrier over the water shouldn’t really do anything. The BM has already hit the air.
Sarah says
Linda–I agree with you that this can be an issue. In this case, I would recommend not adding the blue food coloring so that you can also spray this mixture into the air as an air freshener (though, you might want to omit the vegetable glycerin if you do that and instead just add a few drops of dish soap). Good luck!
Leah says
Great advice Sarah and spot on. Thanks! 🙂
–Leah
Imran says
When I made this .
How long can this bottle stay is in my closet without becoming poor and ineffective.
What is its expiration date ?
Leah says
There is nothing in this recipe that will expire so I wouldn’t worry about it. I do recommend that you keep it right next to your toilet so everyone remembers to use it instead of leaving it in a closet or cupboard. Definitely try it as this stuff is awesome!

Sharon says
I started making this about 4 months ago for my office bathroom. We have approx. 20 women in our office and we go through a 16oz bottle every two weeks! I’m currently using a bunch of cheaper EO that a friend gave me. Some of the fragrance blends I’m not too crazy about; but they win over poo smell, toilet seat down! Since we’ve been using it, I’m no longer assaulted by gross poo or “Glade” spray! Love it!!!!
Leah says
You rock Sharon! I don’t know where you work but talk about girl power! And I love that your using all your cheap, good for nothing else EOs for Poo-Poo Spray. It’s what they were made for. And I love that you’re not using the name brand spray because based on your 4 month usage it would have already cost you $640! And I love that you stopped using air fresheners cause that crap will kill ya. LOL! You might be my new hero. 🙂

Natasha says
i have a septic tank and am worried about the effect of oil on the tank and drain field. Any info on this?
Leah says
Hi Natasha–thanks for stopping by. Essential Oils pose no risk to septic tanks and drain fields as they are just all-natural, aromatic compounds found in plants. I found lots of info on the internet about essential oils being safe to use in septic systems. Have a great day!

Mitch says
Thanks for the recipe—it works great! I added 2 drops of blue food coloring, so the solution was blue when i bottled it. Then the next morning, the blue was gone and the solution was clear. Not a big deal, but I like the idea of it being blue. I’m assuming there was some chemical reaction between the food die and the essential oils. Any idea how to keep it blue? Maybe a different type of die?
(I did use jetdry instead of vegetable glycerin–not sure if that would make a difference)
Leah says
Hi Mitch–thanks for your question. I have made lots of poo-poo spray using all different combinations of essential oils along with regular food coloring from the grocery store and never had the food coloring lose color. It must be from something in the JetDry which really makes me wonder what the heck is in JetDry. Ha, ha. If you don’t have vegetable glycerin Then I recommend using half the amount of liquid soap and you shouldn’t have a problem with it going clear. Good job making it and whatever you do, don’t let it run out. 😉

Cathy says
When I originally pinned this is showed a list of several different oil combinations for the Poo-Poo Spray. One of them had Cassia & Wild Orange (I think), which is the one I’ve made a couple of times. However, when I went into the pin to make it again it does not list the additional EO combos anymore. Can you help me out? I think it was called Spice something. Thanks.
Leah says
Hi Cathy–thanks for your question. So many people have asked me for a printable version of this recipe that I finally just made one. If you hit on one of the green banners in the text of the post you can put in your email address and you will immediately get the printable PDF with the original recipe as well as the bonus recipes. Once you print it up you’ll have an easy reference whenever you need to make another batch. The one you’re looking for is called Spice Girls. Enjoy!

Thanks so much,

I have never made poo-poo spray without essential oils but in my opinion it’s a key ingredient. You could try it with just vegetable oil and test it out for yourself. You’ve certainly got nothing to lose. 🙂
Marianna says
Hi,
Can I use ethyl alcohol instead of propyl (rubbing) alcohol? Can’t seem to find rubbing alcohol in the country where I’m currently living.
Thanks.
Leah says
Hi Marianna-thanks for your question. Yes, you can use regular alcohol instead of rubbing alcohol. I only recommend rubbing alcohol because it’s so cheap and readily available here in the United States. I would stick with vodka since it has no smell and won’t compete with the essential oils. Poo-poo spray works so well and I know you’re going to love it. 🙂

Marianna says
Thanks! Works well.

You’re welcome! 🙂

Can’t wait to try this out! I clicked on the banner for additional scent recipes & filled out my info, but it just redirects me to a directory of Essential Oil projects you have on your website & I didn’t get an email. Is there a bug on your page or am I just missing it? THANKS!
Leah says
Hi Liz–thanks for stopping by and I’m sorry you’re having trouble accessing the Poo-Poo Spray freebie. It should have pulled up immediately so I’ll go check and make sure everything is working on my end. In the mean time, I’ll email you the printable recipe card personally. Thanks for the heads up and have a great week! 🙂

Alison says
I made this yesterday as the brand I use has been out of stock forever. It was not Poo pourri. Anyway I was so happy with the result and I love that I made it myself. I used different essential oils I had on hand and the scent is wonderful. Who would think so? I was thinking it would make great room spray but was not sure if it would be ok sprayed in the air so I looked at your webpage again and found all kinds of great products. I am excited to try some of the others. A really great product. Thank-you for sharing this information with us all.
Leah says
Wow Alison–you just made my day. Thank you for you nice compliments and enthusiasm. Once you figure out you can make products yourself that are so much cheaper and not toxic like the stuff from the store, it becomes addicting. I do have a recipe for Room & Linen Spray but you can use the Poo-Poo Spray for the same purpose as long as you leave out the food coloring. Please come back after you’ve tried some of my other products and let me know what you think. And congrats on jumping on the DIY bandwagon. Your body will thank you. 🙂

Victoria Wheeler says
What is the recipe for poo-poo bathroom deodorizer ?
Leah says
Hello Victoria–thanks for your question. You can actually use my Poo-Poo Spray as a bathroom deodorizer but if you do you’ll want to leave out the food coloring. Or you can make my All-Natural Room and Linen Spray and that works great too. Here’s the link: https://fabulousfarmgirl.com/diy/room-linen-spray-2/

Hi.
I just wanted to ask if your recipe doesn’t clog the sprayer? And for a 2oz mix, can I use a plastic bottle?
Thank you so much!
Kathleen Durbin says
Hi
Ive been trying to make my own poo fragrance but I found that when I followed a recipe the final end smell seemed very week and hardly noticeable when sprayed into the loo. Perhaps its the pure essence of lemon oil I’m using. Could you advice me a product which give out a strong smell of lemon when mixed with the other ingredients. Thanks

Can’t wait to try this receipe!

A friend made some. And then called me with a “this is on the can because someone did it how did they not know that was a bad idea” warning.
Apparently the only EO she had a lot of was Peppermint Oil. And the fumes caused some…discomfort for her.
I ran her by an extra bottle of Lavender oil until her order gets in from YL this week.
HA!

Thanks for providing! Made this tonight and it is husband tested and wife approved! Lol. I did mix all the ingredients first in a 4 cup plastic measuring cup and the measuring cup now has a strange film in it that I can’t remove. I’m sure there’s some scientific reason for this but really I’m just wondering what you recommend for mixing the ingredients.
Sarah says
The poo poo spray recipe here is different quantity of EO drops than the printable recipe card & the recipe card forgets to mention the food coloring option
Claudia says
Happily using this recipe, thank you! Wondering if the links have changed as upon return visit, can’t open the “other combinations” of essential oils suggested.

This is my first visit to your site. And, one of the best beginnings of a morning—-I have laughed, followed my husband through the house reading to him. I didn’t want to be the only one here educated on Poo-Poo Spray. Also, I think it a lousy wife cheating hubby of the chuckles, know how, and service he’ll provide to everyone within a two mile radius.
I need your help with another poo poo problem. We rescued 3 Pugs. One we’ve had about 8 yrs. She has hip dysplasia and does not always have control. She tries so hard to get outside in time — even as a puppy she did not go inside. It truly embarrasses & upsets her. What can I spray for the odor on rug? I think I’ve tried every pet odor spray known to man, vinegar, baking soda, air sprays, etc. They don’t work. Or. they may for different issue. What does your expertise advise?? I’ll definitely be a new follower and anxious to see what you’re up to next.

Won’t liquid soap change the fragrance.

Thank you for this tutorial and links to products. I have two teenage boys and this will be a godsend in our home. I also bought an oil diffuser to use up any of the leftover essential oils in the sample pack I bought.

Fab stuff, it keeps hubbie’s whiffs at bay (mine smell of lavender of course!)
Could I use whiskey instead of vodka – it’s all I have.

HI THERE, I HAVE FOUND THAT GREEN , SPEARMINT FLAVOR, MOUTH WASH WORKS REALLY GREAT. !! ..NO ALCOHOL THAT STINKS…& I USE 1 TBSP. SHAMPOO, & LAVENDER OIL, WILD ORANGE, LEMON, & PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OILS.
WHEN I MAKE A BIG BATCH USING 1 LITER (33.8 OZ) Q C BRAND SPEARMINT MOUTH WASH FROM MY LOCAL GROCERY, I ADJUST THE ESSENTIAL OILS, SHAMPOO , BUT ONLY USE 2 CUPS WATER PER BATCH. I THEN FILL MANY 4 OZ BLUE BOTTLES TO KEEP FOR GIFTS.

Hi. I see that you don’t update your website too often. I know that
writing articles is time consuming and boring. But did you know that there is a tool that allows you to create new posts using existing content (from article directories or other websites
from your niche)? And it does it very well. The new posts are high quality and
pass the copyscape test. You should try miftolo’s tools

Can I use regular glycerine instead of vegetable glycerin? Also, what type of liquid soap can I use, castille or will dish or hand soap work? Thanks for the recipe!
Rachel says
Hi! you reference other optional essential oil mixes for the spray in your post, but either the link broke you you forgot to include it. I don’t see any other oil blend options in your post. What are some options to replace the lemongrass? Could I use straight lemon?
Thanks!

Sorry, 1 cup minus 2 tbsp of water…what does that mean, to literally remove 2 tbsp of water out of 1 cup of water? Will that really make a difference?
Thanks for the clarification.

made my first poo pourri bottle, got bottles from amazon which are for essential oil sprays, and the pump doesn’t work now, getting 1 pump per 3 tries?? any ideas?
Karen J. says
I wish to make a large quantity of homemade poo-pourri. Any suggestions, re making a batch rather than individual spray bottles of it? I must not be employing the proper search word terms, in my googling efforts. All I know to do, if to settle on one recipe, and transcribe/adjust it. I have made it previously, using spring water, a dab of baby shampoo, witch hazel, a few drops of food coloring, and of course, the essential oils. Am stepping my game up this time around—-awaiting the arrival of a bottle of vegetable glycerin.

I really wish someone would figure out a more authentic formula. All these alcoholish formulas lack the same body and effectiveness of the original, which does not contain alcohol. We haven’t cracked the formula, yet. 😔

I dot have any essential oils. Do I have to use these?
Georgia W. says
Im really grateful to have found this tonight! I was looking on Amazon but I really didn’t want to pay so much for the spray you have to loose a lot when you have to pump it after using a spray bottle upside down. Also I love reading things posted by sensible people. Use up the cheap oils. I have those from my days before getting fussy, what a perfect way to repurpose them! I’m kind of excited. I wondered how very long it would take cheap me to toss them:) Plus the last part was funny, about the lights. Thank you!! You saved us money:))

I just tried the well known poo pourie and it worked very well. I live in studio alone but worry if I had people over, things don’t always vent the way I want them to go. Then I discovered you. Ty ty. Not only will it save me money but I think I’ve found
a great site for testing out some other things. Happy
