The more I read labels in the grocery store the more I want to cook stuff at home. The more I read labels at the beauty counter the more I want to cook stuff at home. And considering that the four ingredients in this wonderful Lemon Rosemary Sugar Scrub came out of my kitchen, it kind of feels like cooking. Plus, like any great food recipe, the end product smells divine and tastes great. Yes, you can try a little taste but stop yourself from eating the whole jar because, well, it’s mostly sugar. And you won’t have any left for the shower.
Coconut Oil–I love this stuff. Get it extra-virgin and unrefined. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer as well as antibacterial.
EVOO–(not pictured) Extra-virgin olive oil is loaded with anti-oxidants that make it hydrophillic meaning it traps moisture in your skin. It is a great moisturizer and exfoliator.
Lemon EO–cleanses, disinfects and works as an astringent.
Rosemary EO–anti-inflammatory, clears the conscious mind (and who doesn’t need that?).
Nuke the coconut oil until melted, throw in the sugar, essential oils and EVOO, mix it up good and you’re done. How easy was that? Now sit down, take a moment and just breathe in the amazing aroma. You’re welcome.
Okay stop breathing it in now, we’ve got to get it in some sort of container with a lid. I prefer a good ol’ mason jar and these little 4 oz. jelly jars are perfect for gift-giving. This recipe will fill 2 of these 4 oz. jars if you pack the sugar scrub in tightly. Make a cute label and give one to a friend then take the other one and put it in your shower or on your bathroom counter as a gift for yourself. Happy Tuesday to me!
Lemon Rosemary Sugar Scrub
1/4 c. coconut oil
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
10 drops lemon essential oil
3 drops rosemary essential oil
Put coconut oil in a microwave-safe container and heat in microwave just long enough to barely melt. Let cool for a few minutes. Add essential oils, sugar and stir really well until all ingredients are incorporated. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Fills one 8 oz. jar.

Can this scrub be used on the face as well?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Lecia, thanks for stopping by! Yes you can definitely use it on your face but as with all facial scrubs just rub gently and only use once or twice a week. I like to use it in the shower so it’s easier to wash off. If you like a lather when you wash your face then you can add 1/2 tsp. of your favorite facial cleanser to the formula.

Do you think there would be any benefit to using a “raw” sugar or is the white stuff better?
-Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Nikki–thanks for your question. I would not recommend using raw sugar as it is a much larger crystal and could be scratching to your skin. The sugar is only acting as an exfoliator and when it comes to exfoliating, the finer the grain the better. So I recommend regular white sugar for this recipe. Have a great week!

I’m wondering about the coconut oil. It will resolidfy after it cools right? Does everything separate and need to be remixed when you want to use it? Or maybe the mix of the coconut and EVOO somehow keeps things a more liquid consistency?
Fabulous Farm Girl says
Hi Anne–thanks for your question. Most sugar scrubs use just liquid oil like EVOO and sugar. I don’t like them because the oil and sugar separate and the oil rises to the top. Sure you can stir it back up but that’s kind of a pain when you’re in the shower and don’t have a spoon. LOL! I solved the problem by using coconut oil which, because of it’s consistency, keeps everything mixed together. The coconut oil alone made a scrub that was too dry so I added a bit of EVOO to make it a lovely soft consistency. Problem solved and no spoon required. Both coconut oil and EVOO are great for your skin so it really is the best of all worlds. Enjoy!

Yea for Traders Joe! I think it's great you put your foot down that he eat what you cook. Even if he's picky as long as you cook something he likes, that should be enough. My daughter & I are vegetarians. For awhile after we got back from China she was starved and ate anything. Then she got picky. Once she got to be about 8 or 9 we started insisting she each more vegetables, fruit, and different foods. It's gotten a lot better, so maybe when your son is older and more mature, you'll be able to work on this too.

Could you use fractionated coconut oil, thus eliminating the need to melt the coconut oil?
