When the weather outside is frightful there’s nothing better to warm yourself than with a delicious cup of mulled cider made with essential oils. You heard me right–Mulled Cider With Essential Oils are like Christmas in a cup and so much more flavorful than any prepackaged mix from the store. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
The problem with the spices in most American cupboards is that they are old. After a year, ground spices start to lose their aroma and potency and my guess is that the spices in your cupboard are a lot older than a year. I already make my Brown Butter Gingerbread Cookies using essential oils instead of ground spices because the Eos smell and taste amazing. So when it was time to come up with a recipe for mulled cider I used my trusty essential oils again and the results were divine.
I an very fussy about what brand of essetial oil I use and since you’ll be drinking this I suggest you be fussy too. Just make sure the EO brand you choose says FOR INTERNAL or DIETARY USE on the bottle.
The other essential ingredient in mulled cider is, well…cider. I’m not talking about the super-sweet kiddie apple juice you buy from the grocery store either. You need real apple cider and if you lucky like me you can get it fresh-pressed from a local orchard. I buy several gallons of this stuff every fall and freeze it to use through-out the winter. It tastes like biting into a fresh apple. If you can’t get cider from your local apple farmer you can buy good quality apple cider from most grocery stores now. Although it will be pasteurized and not quite as fresh, it will still work and taste great.
The only thing I like better than the taste of a good mulled cider is the smell, filling up my kitchen. It’s the perfect warm drink to serve for those holiday get-togethers or for a quiet evening alone with your sweetie, snuggling together in front of the fireplace. Even though Christmas time is all hustle and bustle, the moments that make it all worthwhile are the ones spent with the people we love. Cheers!
